Making the Utensil Rolls

1 Sew a dark-print 11½" x 12" rectangle, an accent-print 3½" x 12" rectangle, and a dark-print 3½" x 12" rectangle together as shown to make a pieced rectangle, 12" x 17", for the back of your utensil roll. Press the seam allowances toward the accent print.

2 Referring to the manufacturer’s instructions, fuse the batting between the pieced rectangle from step 1 and the accent-print 12" x 17" rectangle to make a quilt sandwich. If you use regular batting, pin baste the layers together, referring to “Basting” on page 75.

3 Using a walking foot, quilt vertical lines through the layers randomly spaced anywhere from ¼" to 1½" apart.
